This Goulet-exclusive, limited edition Conklin Duragraph fountain pen is made of stunning stabilized figured maple wood in a unique dyed green color, complemented with silver trim and brown resin on the grip and other trim accents like the finials. It fills via standard international converter or cartridge (both included). Each pen is individually numbered out of 300 (of each color).

Stabilized wood is a remarkable material that merges the natural beauty of wood with enhanced durability, workability, and aesthetic appeal similar to resin. The stabilization process involves infusing porous wood with a stabilizing solution—typically a resin or acrylic polymer—which is cured under vacuum or pressure. This allows the solution to deeply penetrate the wood fibers, filling pores and voids at the microscopic level. Once hardened, the resin reinforces the wood, making it far more resistant to warping, cracking, or wear, while allowing it to take on a high polish that enhances its natural figure. The resulting material retains the tactile warmth and intricate grain of wood but is significantly more stable and robust—ideal for fine woodworking applications such as pen making.

This collection exemplifies this transformation by combining natural artistry, heritage design, and advanced material science. At the heart of this collection lies figured maple wood, selected for its richly figured grain, and wave-like figure. Though visually stunning, woods like maple can be naturally soft, porous, and prone to environmental damage. Without stabilization, such woods are often unsuitable for everyday-use items like writing instruments.

Conklin addresses this with a professional multi-stage stabilization process. Each piece of raw wood is carefully selected based on density, figure, oil content, and structural integrity, then meticulously dried—often using slow, controlled kiln techniques—to eliminate internal moisture and stress. Once dried, the wood is placed in a vacuum chamber where an acrylic polymer resin, dissolved in solvent, is infused deep into the wood’s structure through alternating cycles of vacuum and pressure.

Following infusion, the wood is cured under heat, which hardens the resin and permanently integrates it with the wood’s cellular structure. This not only increases the wood’s hardness and density—sometimes doubling or tripling its weight in the case of very light species—but also enhances its resistance to wear, moisture, and environmental changes. The final product is a stabilized wood that retains its original grain and warmth while gaining a smooth, polished surface that resists scuffs, dents, and deformation.

The Conklin Duragraph fountain pen is offered with your choice of a reliable, smooth-writing German made JoWo #6 silver steel nib in extra-fine, fine, medium, broad, or 1.1mm stub, or the new JoWo black Omniflex flexible steel nib for variation in line width.

Our note about the JoWo Omniflex nib: This flex nib will allow you to experience more bounce and softness than writing with conventional nibs. You can achieve some line variation with a little additional downward pressure, to a point. We recommend flexing the nib to about twice the line width that you would see without using any pressure. Please take care to avoid pressing too hard on the nib, as over-flexing could prevent the tines from returning fully to their original position and decrease or stop your ink flow.

From Conklin:
In 1923, the Duragraph model was launched, and shortly afterwards was considered to be "the definitive" pen. The model was named by combining the words, durable and graph - Duragraph. Created to last as an heirloom to serve many generations, the Duragraph is offered with a lifetime guarantee. In honor of the Duragraph's 91st birthday, Conklin has introduced a new Duragraph collection that brings a fresh, modern style to a timeless oversize flat top design. Crafted from quality hand made resins, the Duragraph is substantial in size, yet not so large to be unwieldy in the hand.

We do our best to photograph the pens to show how they will appear in person, but due to the nature of the material, there will be some variation in the pattern seen here. This adds an element of uniqueness to the pen, with no two patterns being exactly the same. We cannot honor special requests.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use this pen with ink cartridges? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses standard international ink cartridges, a common size which is available in many colors from various brands.

You can learn more about how to actually install an ink cartridge on our blog, or in this video tutorial:

How do I use a converter? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A converter goes in the place of where the ink cartridge would normally go. From there, you can fill your fountain pen from bottled ink.

A converter is a detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter.

We have a great video showing how to use a converter here:

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
