Some materials do more than shape an object: they preserve a story, a tradition, a legacy. With the new Limited Edition Homo Sapiens Legacy Celluloid, Visconti brings back one of the most iconic materials in the history of writing instruments - celluloid. An extraordinary material  that has marked the evolution of high-end pens and forms part of Visconti's historical tradition.

Introduced at the beginning of the twentieth century and long cherished by collectors, celluloid is considered one of the most prestigious and fascinating materials ever used in  the world of luxury writing instruments. Unlike modern industrial plastics, celluloid is a living material, renowned for its exceptional chromatic depth, natural luminosity, and the complexity of its production process, which today makes it increasingly rare in the landscape of high-end writing instruments.

With the Homo Sapiens Legacy Celluloid, this historic material returns in an exclusive limited edition that celebrates the meeting of one of Visconti’s most iconic models with one of the most prestigious and sought-after materials in the history of writing instruments. A combination that brings together the distinctive character of the Homo Sapiens with the extraordinary depth and uniqueness of celluloid, expressing the excellence of Italian manufacturing and Visconti’s artisanal tradition.

The striped celluloid pattern enhances the dynamic nature of the material, creating a vibrant interplay of light and color that highlights the form of the pen. Rose gold finishes add warmth and elegance, while the enameled clip introduces a refined decorative detail that reinforces the distinctive identity of the model.

This pen is fitted with Visconti's precious 18kt rose gold plated nib, a symbol of Italian craftsmanship excellence and a guarantee of a fluid, precise, and harmonious writing experience.

The double reservoir power filler is a vacuum filling system that is easy to use and has considerable benefits. Patented in 1998, this is arguably the most advanced filling system ever developed in fountain pen history. The user is able to fill the pen with the equivalent of 10 cartridges of ink, and thanks to the two reservoirs, prevents ink from leaking during air travel.

The Hook Safe Lock revolutionary cap closing system is very satisfying to operate and was created to lock the pen body into the cap to prevent the possibility of the pen accidentally unscrewing and leaking inside a pocket or bag.

The Legacy Celluliod Limited Edition is individually numbered and limited to 888 pens worldwide. Each pen is presented in a beautifully crafted limited edition box.

Note: Each of these pens has a different pattern and consistency of design. We do our best to photograph a pen that’s indicative of the average overall aesthetics, but expect some variance when you receive yours. It’ll be one-of-a-kind, just like your unique writing style!

Please also note we are unable to accept a return of this pen for any reason once it has been used with ink. Please thoroughly inspect and dry test the pen before use.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill a fountain pen with ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the pen's filling mechanism, which you can find in the Technical Specs section above.

Here's a quick definition of the most common filling mechanisms:

  • Cartridge - A small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write! Check out our quick guide here.
  • Converter - A detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter. Here's a video for how to fill a cartridge/converter pen using a LAMY pen as an example.
  • Eyedropper - A pen that utilizes the entire barrel as a reservoir for ink. Ink is directly filled into the barrel, allowing for a high ink capacity. Here's a video on how to do it!
  • Piston - A type of filling system that uses a retracting plunger inside a sealed tube to draw ink into a pen. They are typically either twist or push-operated. These pens cannot accept cartridges or a converter, and only fill from bottled ink.
  • Vacuum - A push-style piston that uses pressure to fill the large pen body with ink. They seal the ink chamber when closed, making it ideal for flying without risk of leaking. Check out our video on how to use a vac filler here.

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
